Dhul hijjah The month of hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)

Dhul Hijjah - The Month of Hajj in Islam

Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic (lunar) calander - is almost here. It is the month during which Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) takes place. We all yearn to go there atleast once in our lifetime.

If one more year has passed without you getting a chance to perform hajj then do not despair. This month is considered a sacred month and its an opportunity for everyone to earn immense rewards whether you are on hajj or at your home.

Learn about Hajj and it's origin here

VIRTUESOF DHUL HIJJAH

1. A Sacred Month

This month along with 3 other months (Dhul Qi'dah, Muharram and Rajab) is considered a sacred month.

“O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of Allah or [the sanctity of] the sacred month ...”
(Qur’an, 5:2)

“...so do not wrong yourselves during them (i.e., the sacred months)..”
(Qur’an, 9:36)

Allah عزوجل has singled out these four months and has forbidden us to initiate war with enemy and commit sins out of RESPECT for the sanctity of these months.  Commiting sins in these months is WORSE than commiting it at any other time.

2. Most beloved Days to Allah

The First 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the most beloved days to Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said about the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah:
"There are NO days on which righteous deeds are more BELOVED to Allaah than these ten days.” They said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah?” He said: “NOT EVEN JIHAD for the sake of Allaah, UNLESS a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything."
[Al-Bukhari]

3. Allah swears an oaths by these 10 days

Swearing an oath by something indicates it's extreme importance.

"By the dawn; by the ten nights"
[89:1-2]

Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah.
Ibn Katheer said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/413)

4. Offering Sacrifice

Eid ul Adha takes place during the 10th of dhul hijjah. It is sunnah to offer sacrifice (udhiyah) of a livestock animal on Eid ul Adha or on the 3 consecutive days after it.

It is an extra act of worship that has been specially assigned to these days , thus adding to it's value.

IMPORTANT NOTE -

Those who intend to offer sacrifice on Eid ul Adha should not cut their nails or hair from the beginning of the 10 days of dhul hijjah untill they have offered the sacrifice.

"When you see the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah, if any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, then he should STOP CUTTING HIS HAIR and NAILS until he has offered his sacrifice."
[Muslim]

The wisdom behind this is to make those who are not in ihraam (not performing hajj) resemble those in ihraam in some aspects of the rituals performed.

Each one has a chance of drawing closer to Allah and a hope of being saved from the hell fire by offering Sacrifice and other righteous deeds. .

Subhan'Allah ! Such is the Mercy of Allah on HIS slaves. ❤

ACTS OF WORSHIP

1.  FASTING

It is mustahab (recommended) to fast the first 9 days of dhul hijjah. [Abu Dawood]

The 9th of Dhul Hijjah , the day of Arafah has it's own significance.
Fasting on the DAY OF ARAFAH (the 9th dhul hijjah) is a confirmed sunnah for those who are not performing Hajj .

It EXPIATES for the sins (minor sins) of the previous year and the coming year.
 [Muslim]

 2. TAKBEER AND DHIKR

Recite a lot of TASBEEH (Subhan Allaah) TAHMEED (Al-hamdu lillaah) TAKBEER (Allaahu akbar) and TAHLEEL (La ilaaha ill-Allaah) during this time.
[Ahmad]
One of the forgotten sunnah is to recite the takbeer anytime during the first 13 days of dhul hijjah -

"Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar, la ilaha ill-Allah; wa Allahu akbar Allahu akbar wa Lillahil-hamd.
(Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god but Allah; Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great and to Allah be praise)"

#Revive_the_Sunnah.

3. GIVE UP SINS

As mentioned before , commiting sins during this month is worst than commiting it in other months. Therefore, before you think of those extra acts of worship, refrain from sinning as much as you can.

4. INCREASE IN RIGHTEOUS DEEDS

Strive to do extra like praying nafl, getting up for tahajjud, reading extra Quran, making lots of DUA,  giving charity, being grateful, being good to others and increasing in righteous deeds.

Remember, on the Day of Judgement we will be in dire need of every little act of worship done in this dunya. Then why let go of this golden opportunity.

5. REPENTANCE

One can take advantage of this sacred time and make sincere TAWBAH.
Combining good deeds with repentance is a way of achieving success.

"... But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful."
(28:67)

REPENT and make a sincere resolution to never get back to it again.

May Allah عزوجل ACCEPT all our deeds performed for HIS sake alone.

Remember me and the UMMAH in your valuable supplications.

Implement and Share the Khair !!!
